FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Unlike other products, water-based lubricants are characterized by their versatile applications. For vaginal intercourse, a water-based lube blends with the vaginal fluid to provide long-lasting glide. So that you get your money's worth in terms of taste during oral intercourse, you will also receive the lubricant with taste. With AQUAglide anal, we at JOYDIVISION have even developed a water-based lube that is very suitable for anal pleasure.
In addition, most water-based lubricants are condom-compatible, so you can be sure of contraception. In addition, a water-based lubricant can't harm your silicone toys – perfect for wet hours with your toys. On top of that, the gel is easy to wash out. So you don't have to worry about possible stains, you can dedicate yourself to yourself and your partner!
A lube is not a contraceptive. Avoid contact with eyes and wounds. Stop if irritation occurs. Do not use silicone lubricant together with silicone toys.
Precisely because a lube is used during sexual activities, the ingredients should definitely be skin-friendly and have as little allergic potential as possible. This is particularly important because the intimate parts of the body that come into contact with the lubricant, such as the vagina, penis and anus, are extremely sensitive. In general, less is more, the fewer ingredients are contained, the less allergy potential there is. The most likely possibility of an allergy occurring is to certain substances such as perfumes, dyes, preservatives and aromas, not to the lubricant as a whole. If an allergy is suspected, we recommend that you first have your specialist clarify what the allergy is directed against. Once the cause is identified, switch to other products.
Firstly, you should make sure that your lube and your condom or love toy are compatible. But also your compatibility with the lubricant is important, as otherwise irritation in the intimate area can occur.
Lubricants should be stored dry, cool and away from direct sunlight. A drawer on the bedside table is ideal, where it is also directly at hand.
The lube can be washed off very easily with lukewarm water.
There is a risk that unwanted germs multiply and reach the intimate area. Please observe the genital area, changes occur in the rarest cases.
There are no clinical data available that speak against the use of a lubricating gel for the desire to have children. Unfortunately, there are currently hardly any studies that have investigated the influence of a lubricant on the sperm in the desire to have children. It is possible that the mobility of the sperm is slightly influenced. There are many women who have become pregnant despite using a lubricant.
However, we recommend that you consult your gynaecologist or a midwife to ensure an individual consultation.
A lube is always needed when it is not moist enough during lovemaking. The main function of lube is its moisturizing effect. If your own vaginal moisture is not sufficient, for example due to hormonal fluctuations, after birth or during the menopause, the gel provides sufficient lubrication and makes your sex life more pleasurable again. The additional moisture minimizes friction during sex and you feel more.
This is even more important during anal intercourse, during which you do not have any of your body's own lubricant. Also with oral games and masturbation, especially together with toys, the slipping effect of the lubricant gives you more fun in bed.
No, because the lube contains no spermicidal agents
Lubricants containing oil destroy the surface of condoms containing latex in a short time. As a result, there is no longer any protection against infections or unwanted conception; the closing of the skin pores leads to increased heat development on the skin in the case of products containing oil and grease; Vaseline or oil cannot be removed so easily and leave stains on the laundry; lubricants containing oil attack the surface of vibrators and other sex toys made of silicone and are therefore not suitable for this. Water-based lubricants should be used here.
Yes, because many manufacturers of toys actually recommend the use of lube in their instructions. However, there is only one restriction: never use toys that contain silicone or are made entirely of silicone with lubricants containing silicone. This will destroy the toys, as the silicone lube will dissolve the silicone out of the toys and make them unusable.
The pH value of JOYDIVISION lubricants is in the range of 4.6 to 5.2 and is therefore perfectly adapted to the pH value of the vaginal flora.
Water-based lubricants have a shelf life of 36 months and 12 months after opening (except BIOglide has a shelf life of 30 months and 6 months after opening), silicone based lubricants have a shelf life of 60 months and 12 months after opening. We generally advise against using them if the product looks cloudier, is more liquid or smells different than usual.
The shelf life for the unopened product is stamped on the tube fold next to the batch designation.
Since the lube consists of dermatologically tested and very mild and skin-compatible ingredients, it can be used in unlimited quantities and frequency.
Did you know that very few lubricants are suitable for use with condoms? When using with latex condoms, it depends on the type of lube if you don't want to risk damaging the latex.
Always use lube that have been specially developed for use with condoms, such as AQUAglide neutral. If you want to buy lubricant, make sure that the following information is on the packaging:
CE mark
It signals that it is a legal medical product and is mandatory for a medical lube! If the CE mark is missing on the packaging, these lubricants are not even intended for intimate intercourse without a condom!
Note "condom friendly/suitable for condoms" in German language (kondomfreundlich/kondomgeeignet)
Only with this note you can use the lube together with condoms!
If some or even all information is missing on the lubricant packaging, it must never be used together with condoms!
Independent tests have shown that up to 40 percent of condoms (coated with non-approved lubricant as an experiment) burst much earlier than normal! Many non-approved products also contain a small amount of oil. This means that the condom safety of the lubricants is no longer guaranteed.
